Motorcases

After all the commontion with the car I almost forgot that I have a great motorbike standing inside the shed. It's standing there on the center stand and the jack from the now total loss declared car. When your car is gone you can use the jack for better purposes, i.e. lifting the front end of the CX.

Im the mean time I have turned the engine around, kill-switch on, keep the fuel tap closed, and with a charched battery connected pussing the start-switch, until there was enough oil-pressure to turn the oil-light off. Ready. This is, so I've been told, to keep the stator into the oil, so the isolation will not dry out. But it is also done to let the CX know that I did not forget him.

But well, after all that searchtime for a small car it now time again for the real work. Is there still something nice to find for my CX? Then I can do some nice additives in spring and then.... Yes, then what? Vechta? Round the "Zuiderzee"? Something else?

On "Marktplaats" an advertisement attracts my attention. Remains of the stock of an motorcycleshop, and that advertisement I have seen already a number of months ago. But then it was only as parties sale. Now there is also the purchace of single items possible.

Look at that! That can be somthing for me. Perhaps a nice krauser set, so that I can take along more as some tools, a towel and dry socks. an e-mailtje and a phone call later I know that I on Saturday 6 January I can come by in Goudriaan, at Siem de Vos.

About half past ten I stand there. Here stood long ago a large motorshop, the well-known BMW concessionnaire 'Siem de VosMotoren', but the company has moved to Nieuwegein. I an sent to the back of the bilding, where Mr. De Vos welcomes me. The offered components are more or less vestiges of the removal, the spare parts which are not desired on the new location. It's a bit a sad sight, an empty workshop and an obsolete shop. Pieces fairing lie at each other, and I recognise a part of Rickman fairing, a top-half, beside parts of Kawasaki and MotoGuzzi. Remainders of a glorious past. Trunks, racks and other matter lies more or less ordened spread out on the floor. De Vos and I go in search of a set trunks, but that does not turn out to be easy! But we succeeds after many treads and measures to find two trunks, with the associated brackets. Unfortunately the one trunk has been damaged heavily, but I have the idea that I know what to do to solve that problem. We don't argue much about the price, and I get my stuff together. If we leave for the door I see all of a sudden something lying there: a neat black head lamp unit for an old type of CX, completely with windscreen, and the head lamp. I tkae those also, although it is a bit high priced.

At home I turn on the computer, and look if I'm lucky. Yes! In Westerfoort, not far from home, a Dick M. offers a left case without a lock, together with an incompleet Krauser-frame. The case is the same type as the dammaged case that I have. The price is reasonble, and an appointment is quickly made. So the next afternoon, January 7, on the bench in the kitchen, there are three krausers and a set of brackets.

... three krausers ...

The righthand-brace of my own krauser rack did ever break. The crack has been repaired with a piece heat insulation tape, and you can't see almost nothing of it. But it no fine idea, now it had to hold my case. But no worries, I have now an incomplete rack, where I can use a part as transplantation material. The lock is simple to take of from the faulty trunk to the good trunk, and ready is my set cases!

Now I have to find some keys. The lock from the right case is equal to the lock onh the right bracket. But for the left cases I need two different keys. But these are "luxuery problems."

From the club I get the messge that through Rob's Accessoires in 't Zand, it must be possible to get some keys.

topkoffer

A week later I find an old Krauser top-case at the internet. It has the same style as the side cases I already have, and I have to think about it for a few days. I make a decision, and places a bid. The same afternoon I get an e-mail back. Iwan van H. says that my bid was a little low, but maybe I want to raise. I agree, the bid was very low, so I give him a call. We are soon in agreement about the price, and agree that I will pick up the top-case the next sunday, when I pass Oss, where he lives, on my way to the CX-clubs "NewYearsCoffeeChat" in Boekel.

Now I have found in a few weeks time for a reasonble amount of money a compleet set of cases for my CX.

Now to build all things to the motor. But that has to wait, the CX is now parked in the shed, and there not enough space to jump around and do all sort of things. So,m as always, i have to be patience, very very patience......
