To Fairing or not to FairingDancing with a revue-group |
Everything is normal again. Me and my CX have found each-other again, and a
divorce between us is far gone. Oil and oilfilter of my "Red Rascal" are
changed, and with that I have a new experience on my list. Until, one day,
I look upon the Forum of the
Dutch Honda CX-500 club
and things get complicated again.
 An offer on the Forum Translation : Dear CXers, In my shed lais a fairing that once was placed on a cx 500 '78. It is not pretty, there are cracks in the paint and the headlight is missing, but the brackets are included. It is not so beautifull, and I want to give it to a CXer that wants a fairing At once I hit the keyboard, and ask Erik for a photo. It's possible, he answers, but I have to wait a while. Impatience I try to wait patient and in the mean time the pro's and con's of owning a full fairing are passing the revue. And a revue it is. Before my mind's eye dances an enthousiastic red CX volumptuous showing her fairing and attracks all the attention. Behind that, a line of CX-es with very smal windscreens dances with even more energy. And behind that more and more CX-es dancing in this almost endless parade of pretty dressed CX-es. Images of miles and miles tour rides are showed on the background. I have to wait a while for the pictures. Erik announces that he has send them, but my mailbox is totally empty, besides the huge amount of Spam. The revue groep on stage get a bit tired after such a display of enthousiasme, and for some reason the full fairing is not dancing so hard as well. In the background I now can see just one small CX, a red one, equipted with a small windscreen, dancing with passion. After a few tries from Erik's side at last an e-mail comes in, with a huge attachment. Erik sends a very detailed photo from the fairing. later I hear that he tried to send four photo's in one e-mail, each of them with a size around 2.6 Mb. That is more than 10 Mb total, and my provider doesn't like that and removes such mail from the server. But now the photo is here. A dark red, and with a scratchfree window, so it looks. Complete with all the brackets. What do I need more ?  Fairing It is time to think again. What do I want ? And again I see my imaginairy revue-group dancing....... The CX with the large fairing is gone, the whole group of dancing CX-es that were behind that is gone, and alone, no longer hidden behind the crowd is one single CX. And now it shows how beautifull that CX is. The images around the stage are changend, and are now showing country roads, that glide easy under the motor-cycletyres. Behind that dancing CX is a large mirror, and when I look into it I see a caricature of myself, hidden behind a gigantic large fairing on a motor that is to big for me. The motor rides and rides and rides, and I don't have any control of were I am going. Far away on the background I can see myself again, but behind a much smaller fairing, on a motor that fits me perfectly, a red CX...... I most be honest, especily to myself. I send the picture, although a few sizes smaller, trought to Werner, who want the fairing for Grietje. On the Forum I was just a few minutes earlyer then he was. I do want to have a fairing for the Cx, but i realy think that now is not the time. First build some road experience, than fairings, if it comes so far. The scene changes again. The little red Cx and I are dancing around and around and around, in what seems to be an endless motor-wals, without any fairings, a wind blowing over the top of the litte windscreen, dancing into the sunset.....  |
