Spare Part Market 2009

... 26 April ...

Each year the Dutch Honda CX-500 club has, somewhere at the beginning of the season, a 'parts-market', where everyone that has parts or bits of a Honda CX or related articles has lie, these can offer, and others, which just are missing that specific part, can buy. 26 April, the last Sunday of April 2009, was the day.

I agreed with Michael to be at his plave around half past ten, and leave from there to Linschoten. I was somewhat earlier, placed the "Red Rascal" behind "Lammetje", and had a warm cup of coffee befiore we left. The sky was slightly cloudy, and rain threatened. Fortunately it remained that way, a dark, gray sky, heavy with rain.

... Rascal behind Lammetje ...

Until Utrecht it went rather smoothly, without any considerable problems. But at Utrecht, before Lunetten until beyond Ouderijn, there were a couple of motorists who found it very difficult, to take motorcycles into there considerations. It's best to ignore motorcyclist, was their attitude, and they did. Two times I saw Michael was seriously was cut-off by a car which changed lanes and absolutely not gave sufficient space, and I got my turn, when a motorist found that the bap between my CX and the car in front of me was wide enough to put in his vehicle. All in all an unpleasant part of the journey. Close to the exit Woerden it started to rain, but we were almost at our destination. Exit Woerden, direction Linschoten, and almost direct a left turn, the "Lage Kade", and then the "Cattenbroekerdijk", and a few hundred metres further, we arrivid. The spare part marked started officially at eleven o'clock, and it was already busy with people looking around at the components.

... spare parts ...

To say that you can find ALL the parts for a CX is maybe a little bit excessively but who wanted to build a CX from the spare parts at the fair could have a good start here. Wheels, head lamps, fall clamps, frame, complete engine blocks, handlebars and trunksets. To find exactly that one part, that one special item the CX-ers came from all over of Holland to Linschoten. And those who did not need anything (it happens) came just for coffee end sociability.

... CX-ers ...

Wernar brought with him, beside a huge amount of parts, also his new love. A CX-with-sidecar, with special paint decoration, lovingly called "Charel the Great". The motor got a nice place under the roofed area, and everybody had to see it.

... Karel de Grote ...

Maybe it is my big mouth, or maybe a notorious name, or something else, within the shortest time I was in conversation with a CX-er, whose engine, if the engine was nicely warm, did not run smooth at five thousand rpm. And scarcely five minutes later it seems that I was giving a " masterclass" stator-diagnose and repair. Much public, and also a demo. I borowwed Werner's the spare CDI, But that did not give the right results, and then toke the Ignitech CDI of Gosmar. With lots of confidence I connected the new CDI, power on and..... nothing, the CX did not start. I checked the wiring, and according to the user guide it had been connected allright, but nevertheless nothing happened. Thus I removed the Ignitech CDI again, what did not go real easily. But what was then the matter with that Ignitech CDI?

... Ignitech CDI removed ...

Cosmar and I decided to test the new CDI on my own "Red Rascal". But that engine also didn't want to start when the Ignitech CDI was connected. With its own, standard CDI the CX worked perfectly. Was the Ignitech CDI faulty? Who could say?. But my faith in the device had become a considerable dent. But there was little time to worry about it because Coen, the President of CX-V club, had to make an announcment.
Sometime ago an call was send out, to select some new menbers of the governing board. There were two places availeble, and no less than six people had offerd their services, Coen told us.

... an announcement ...

Wouter, who has earned his tracks already at the English club, and Grietje, who had to give a more feminine input, were added to the governing board. It was also announced that at the end of the year another opening on the board would come, and Cosmar commencement to fill it at the start of 2010. So all of a sudden there are three new governing board members at the foundation. These three had, with the President, jointly their picture taken, so everyone knows the new faces.

... 3 new members ...

Half a hour later I found it, however, time to leave. About fifteen kilometres further lay Bodegraven, where I was grown up, and I planned a short family visite there.

An hour or two later I drove back to Ede. This time the passing of Utrecht went without any motorists trying to create a problem. My attention remained at the road and drivinf the CX safely to home, but in teh back of my head there was that Ignitech CDI, that didn't want work .......

postscript

Cosmar wrote a e-mail to Reggie, who had an Ignitech CDI build into Trev's CX500. That was an "out or the box" without problems. Why it did not work on this one was a riddle. The key for the answer lay in a link to the forum of Chopper Charles. There was, on a photograph, in a corner, the Ignitech CDI visible with the connection-wiring. And I had accidentally (!) also that bit of the CDI photographed. Precise comparing provided the solution.

The cable onto Cosmar's CDI was different than the cable shown on the CDI on the site of Chopper Charles. An e-mail to Ignitech, with both photos included were answered the next day. With wiring such as Cosmar had, the CDI it would not work. The solution was simple, swap the orange and green wire, and then everything will work as plannend .....
