Cases, the sequel

Now the motor was starting again it is time for the next step, the cases. I did send an e-mail to Rob's Accessoires asking if they could supply the missing keys for the krauser-cases. Soon an answer came. They had the keys, and not to expensive. I ordered the keys, and it was possible to mail the keys to me, all in the service of Rob's.

At fitting the right-side case I noticed that it did not fit smootly. Right, that's the side were the Krauser rack was taped together over an old crack. And so, while the storm of januari 18 moved over the land, I went to the shed, with a selection of apanners and some other tools.

Krauserrack, fixed with tape

Screw by screw I removed the fasteningpoints from the right-side rack/ During the demontage from the recently purchaged rack-parts (read that story )here) I gained some experience, en again I admired the well thought contruction off this rack. It was a good design. When finally the last screws were removed I took just a little bit force to remove the damaged part.

Right-side rack removed

It is a strange and weird sight, the CX without the right-side rack. Fortunatly I have the replacement ready. Without great difficulties I slide the replacement in position and with just a little hammering I can put the screws in. Cause everything had to come loose, I also place the lock-plate for the right case while I put the rack together.

Replacement rack mounted, with keyplate

Now I have to wait for the keys. If I fit the cases now, and I now how to do that, than it is more than likely that I acan't get the CX out of the shed. The door is just, or just not, wide enough to let the CX plus two cases trough. But I have to make a small turn, and when I do that, I'm running out of door-space. So I have to wait for the mail with the keys.

That saturday morning the mail brings an envelop. I open it and a paper and one key fall out. Only one ? Fortunatly not. Inside the paper the second key is hiding. So back to the shed, to work! First, because the lock-plate is in place all-ready, I hook the case in but have to use the key to fit it in place. With a 'click' the lock closes over the lock-plate. Right, that's one ! The second case gives me some problems. After placing the lock-plate it's not possible to hang the case in the right place. I have to try something else. I loose the screws om the inside of the case, and I also loose the nuts end bolts that holds the lock in place on the frame side. Now both have a little space, and I can place the case onto the rack. With a srewdriver to hold the parts apart, I now tighten the screws and nuts. Now I can remove and place this case also.

Cases on the CX

That look nice. The only thing that is missing is a top-case, but that will come in a day or two.

A few days later the Dutch Honda CX-500 club has the "NewYearsCoffeeChat" in Boekel. Long I've been in doubt. CX or auto ? The weatherforecast predicts heavy wind and the possibility of rain and/or hailstorm. Therefore it will be the Car. On the way to Boekel I make a stop in Oss, where I meet with Iwan van H, and get the topcase from him. After a nice afternoon in Boekel, where I meet a lot of CX-ers, I go back home, with the last part of my krauser set.

The next morning, a monday, is a nice morning to complete the cases on the CX. I have to klook en try and turn with locks and plates, but soon I find out how it's done. The topcase is simple to mount to the rack. A moment I stand, and admire the CX. I decide that I have to take a picture. But to do so, I have to place the CX outside, en to make that possible the cases have to come off again. As soon the CX is outside, I mount the cases again. In the clear and fresh januari sunlight it looks even more beautifull.

Looking good

And the other side too

And now that the motor is outside, and I have a motorsuit, and it isn't raining, well, yes, I have to make a ride, just to test that everything is fixed.

Abourt 45 minutes later I'm back. The temperature of 4 degrees Celsius I didn't feel, thank to the suit. The cases did not fall open during the ride, and that's good to now. Imagine that I loose halfway Sint Jans Klooster my toothbrush and slippers.....
